Music Review: Tourniquet

TOURNIQUET (category: Thrash Metal - Christian)
--(if you wanna read more)--

Okay... This is a metal band. Yes, I know there's the word Christian at the end, but nevermind that, most of the time I don't think it's noticeable... and hey, if you're that closeminded that you won't try listening to something in that category, well ::shrug:: nothing I can do to help you... Anyways, since you're reading this, I will elucidate further. I love this band. They're incredibley versatile in their music. Not only can they play really heavy guitar-crunching riffs, but (especially in older albums) they can shred like crazy, and you gotta give it up for Ted Kirkpatrick (drummer).. he's AWESOME (double base I think).. ... And these guys don't just play regular metal tunes either, they always seem to include a slow song or instrumental or two (which are usually the more Chrisitan-apparent of all the tracks) ... I've seen this band classified as Trash, but I would probably put them under Progressive metal as well - sometimes their songs seem very erractic and not as 'liquid' as mainstream metal.. (defintely NOT Nu Metal)...

The first album i got from them was CRAWL TO CHINA.. great stuff, Favortie tracks being: 'Claustrospelunker' - More alternative, air-friendly sounding
'Tire Kiciking' - Very heavy...almost hard-core and
'Bats' - slowish kinda song, highly amusing at parts as well

The next album i picked up was STOP THE BLEEDING (their 1st album, which btw, has a different singer - much more shrieky-sounding... kinda like all those hairbands or Stryper if you've heard of them) Tracks that rock here:
'Test For Leprosy' - Fast & Heavy ...and has one of their BEST guitar shreds I've ever heard 'Ready Or Not' - a bit more shrieky...but still awesome & there are more... but right now I'm too lazy to keep typing....

Who would I compare these guys to:
(Tourniquet's earlier albums) Dream Theater/Rush/ any shrieky-metal band
(Tourniquet's later ones) Megadeth, perhpas/or think of a progressive band style like DreamTheater and give it a heavy voice of a hard-core band Well, that's that for now...

peace,
Evan
